What Are Vascular Lasers?

Vascular lasers are specialized devices designed to target and treat visible blood vessels in the skin—including redness, rosacea, broken capillaries, and certain birthmarks.

They work by selectively heating blood vessels without damaging the surrounding skin, resulting in a clearer, more even complexion.

How Vascular Lasers Work

Vascular lasers use specific wavelengths of light that are absorbed by hemoglobin (the pigment in blood).

This process:

  • Heats and collapses unwanted blood vessels
  • Allows the body to naturally reabsorb them
  • Reduces redness and visible vascular lesions

This is called selective photothermolysis—precise targeting with minimal impact on surrounding tissue.

What Can Vascular Lasers Treat?

  • Rosacea and persistent facial redness
  • Broken capillaries (telangiectasias)
  • Cherry angiomas
  • Spider veins (face and some body areas)
  • Port wine stains
  • Post-inflammatory redness (acne marks)

Common Devices

One of the gold standards in this category is the VBeam Perfecta, a pulsed dye laser specifically designed to target vascular concerns safely and effectively.

Other technologies may also be used depending on the condition and skin type.

Treatment Experience

  • Quick, in-office treatment (15–30 minutes)
  • Cooling system for comfort
  • Sensation often described as a light snap or warmth

After treatment:

  • Mild redness and swelling for 1–3 days
  • In some cases (higher settings), temporary purplish spots (“purpura”) that resolve within ~5–7 days

Results & Timeline

  • Some vessels may disappear immediately
  • Others fade gradually over 2–4 weeks
  • Multiple sessions are often needed for optimal results

Patients typically notice:

  • Reduced redness
  • More even skin tone
  • Clearer, calmer-looking skin

Who Is a Good Candidate?

  • Patients with visible redness or broken vessels
  • Those with rosacea seeking long-term control
  • Individuals bothered by facial flushing or uneven tone

Best results come with early treatment and maintenance
